Bauchi has zero tolerance for corruption– Abubakar

Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi state has reiterated the determination of his administration to promote zero tolerance for corruption in the state Civil Service.
He stated this yesterday during the opening ceremony of the two day anti- corruption summit organised by the state government in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Bauchi.
Abubakar said the government had introduced some measures aimed at ensuring discipline in the system in addition to promoting good governance, adding that forums “like this promote high moral values to the society and excellence in public service.”
He commended ICPC and other anti-graft agencies for providing necessary support to the state government to ensure transparency and accountability in the system.
“Training, seminars and workshops are very essentials ingredients for staff development as well promoting good governance; hence the decision to reintroduce training and re-training to our civil servants and political appointees is paramount importance.
“The state government has started implementing an integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) meant to improve financial and budget management and reporting system in the state,” he said.
Earlier speaking, the Head of Service, Alhaji Liman Bello, said 450 participants were expected to benefit from the workshop.
He said the state government apart from training and re-training of civil servants, over 800 state indigenes were recruited into military, police, Air Force, Navy and Immigration, while 1,500 civil servants were provided with in-service to study at various institutions.
Also speaking, the Provost, Anti Corruption Academy of Nigeria, Prof. Sola Akinrinade, said Bauchi was the first to key into the anti-corruption summit and commended the good initiatives.
He said the workshop “will provide elected and government officials to know how to conduct themselves while occupying positions of trust.
