Bauchi NUJ sensitises members on peaceful co-existence

Bauchi state Council of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ) Friday sensitised members of the state Executive Committee on the role of journalists in maintaining peaceful co-existence in society.

Speaking at the event held at the NUJ Press Centre, Bauchi, the NUJ chairman, Comrade Umar Sa’idu, reiterated the commitment of the Council towards regular training of working journalists across the state in a bid to maintain professionalism in media practice.

Sa’idu said the training was to update the knowledge of the participants on their roles in society in order to contribute “positively towards promoting peaceful co-existence through adherence to the ethics and values of the journalism profession.”

Declaring the workshop open, the state’s Head of Civil Service, Yahuza Adamu Haruna, represented by the permanent secretary, Establishment and Servicom Bureau, Sani Umar, assured of the government’s determination to support NUJ in the training of its members for effective service delivery.

The HoS commended the NUJ for complementing the efforts of the state government in the maintenance of peace and unity in the state and called for its sustenance.

In a remark, the outgoing NUJ national secretary, Comrade Shuaibu Leman, who described the sensitisation as “a step in the right direction,” said journalists deserved regular trainings to enable them to serve the public with well-balanced and accurate information for peaceful co-existence.
