Bauchi restores late dep gov’s entitlements

Bauchi state Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, in a message yesterday, condemned the impeachment of the late former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Garba Gadi in August 2009, on allegation of gross misconduct by the state Assembly.

According to a press statement issued by Abubakar Al-Sadique, the condolence was in exercise of the powers conferred on the governor by section 5 (2) (a) of the 1999 constitution as amended.

The statement said, with the condolence, all benefits and entitlements of the former deputy governor, “are hereby re-instituted and are to be paid forthwith to his family”.

The statement further explained that this notice superseded any prior proclamation, litigation or instruments as it related to the late deputy governor.

‘’The condolence comes with the death of the former deputy governor, Alhaji Garba Mohammed Gadi, and the subsequent discontinuation of the matter, which was pending before the Supreme Court of Nigeria,’’ the statement said.
