Bauchi welcomes interventions by Medecins Sans Frontieres on diseases

The Bauchi state government Friday appreciated the MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERES (also known as Doctors Without Borders) for supporting the state in ensuring effective management of cholera, Lassa fever and other diseases.

Governor Bala Mohammed gave the commendation at the official flag-off for the free paediatric medical services by the state government supported by the organisation held in Kafin Madaki, Ganjuwa local government area of the state.

The governor, represented by the speaker of the House of Assembly, Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, said his administration was working tirelessly to ensure improvement in the health care delivery.

“My Administration has attached great importance to the health sector by allocating 16.2% of the 2022 State budget which is above the Abuja declaration of 15%. This is in addition to our various efforts through working with development partners in a bid to improve infrastructure and equipment in our health facilities.

“Let me at this gesture appreciate the commitment of the MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERES (MSF) – DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS – for supporting the state on epidemic prone diseases. Some of their supports include establishment of cholera treatment centre at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, engagement of ad hoc staff to support the state medical personnel in providing medical services needed at the cholera treatment center, supporting the state with additional drugs and other medical consumables, investigation and treatment of Lassa fever patients,” he said.

Also speaking, the project coordinator, Francis Dorbor, said the organisation was ready to sustain its partnership with the state government in the fight against diseases.
