Bayelsa describe AS Kondzo ‘tough as nails’

Bayelsa United’s goalkeeper, Gambo Gideon, has revealed that Congolese club, AS Kondzo, proved to be a handful during their first round, first leg game in the CAF Confederation Cup on Friday.

The Nigerian club secured a goalless draw on the road in Congo. Gideon disclosed they were on the back foot for about 75 minutes of that first leg of the clash.

The former Nigerian U-20 goalkeeper told supersport.com that Bayelsa United got off the blocks faster and dominated their Congolese counterparts in the opening quarter of the clash but failed to score from three chances.

“It wasn’t an easy game. In the first 15 minutes we were in control of the game and got like three clear chances but we couldn’t convert them. After that the pressure turned on us but to the glory of God we were able to withstand the onslaught,” said Gideon to supersport.com.
The goalkeeper further explained that fatigue later set in during match as Bayelsa United had to travel a day before the clash.

“It really affected us but we just did enough to get a draw,” he said.
Gideon was also full of praises for his team mates especially the defenders who did a yeoman’s job.

Benin Republic international, Salomon Junior, Ebinipre Dengo, Odili Iyasele and Samuel Tswanya played in defence for Bayelsa United against AS Kondzo.
Bayelsa United will play hosts to the Congolese club in Sapele on the weekend of March 7 and 9
