Bayelsa: Dickson, APC guber candidate in hot exchange ahead Nov 16 poll

The flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Bayelsa state, Chief David Lyon, has countered Governor Seriake Dickson over claims that he was not validly elected and not qualified to contest the November 16th guber poll.

Lyon said he was validly elected and waiting for the Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the election.

Lyon, who made this known in Yenagoa on Saturday night during the commissioning of the David Lyon/Senator Degi governorship campaign office by the Minister of Petroleum Resources (state) and state Leader of the APC, Chief Timipre Sylva, said he and his running mate were the authentic flag-bearer for the elections.

The APC guber candidate who also dismissed the claims by PDP supporters that he cannot speak by delivering his speech in English, said the authenticity of a flag bearer was beyond brandishing of Party’s Certificate of Return as done by the PDP flag Bearer, Senator Douye Diri.

According to him, “If you want to know genuine flag bearer, it is not flashing certificate of return from your political party. And we don’t see it anymore. I will not flash the Certificate of Return from the Party as flag bearer. On our own, we are waiting to take the INEC’s Certificate of Return.”

Lyon, while addressing a mammoth crowd of APC leaders and supporters that had waited long hours to welcome him back to Yenagoa and witness the commissioning of his Campaign Secretariat, assured them that he would never disappoint them if elected into office as Governor.

“What I’m telling you is that you should take the message to the local government and grassroots because we coming to make a change in the governance of our people.”

“We are saying to Bayelsans that our suffering will soon end. I assure you that when I’m elected, prosperity will come. Let me tell you a story. Some people that have not seen anything and you entrust the public fund in their care, they turn it into a family fund. That is what is happening in Bayelsa. Let us follow the right track to heaven. We have started the journey and by the grace of God we will win the election.”

Earlier in his speech, Chief Timipre Sylva, expressed optimism that APC and her standard bearer in the state would usher in the much needed progress.

Sylva was confident that the pair of Chief David Lyon and Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo as governor and deputy governor respectively were up to the task of positioning the state for a positive next level.

“Today is just a tip of the iceberg. When some people say, are you sure? And to everyone that thinks we are joking, they are the ones joking. Our prayers have been answered”.

“I want to tell you a new chapter has been opened in the history of Bayelsa state. I want to tell you prosperity is coming and I want you to know that the dark days and locust years under the PDP administration are over; prosperity is coming.”
