Bayelsa NULGE, MHWUN demand governor’s Chief of Staff sack over corruption allegation

The Joint Executive Council of the Nigeria Union Of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and Medical Health Workers Union (MHWUN), Bayelsa State have called for the immediate sack of  the Chief of Staff, Bayelsa State Government House over alleged corrupt practices to the tune of N322million ‘fruitless’ bio-metrics and clock in clock out program under the guise of buy automated attendance mechanics.
This  was contained in a statement jointly signed Monday by  NULGE State President, Comrade Akpos Ekiegh, and Secretary, Comrade Peace Chukwu, alongside MHWUN State Chairman Comrade James Adama and Secretary, Comrade Letam Nwibani. The call, according to the statement became necessary after a technical session presided over by the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd) at the instance of the governor, Henry Seriake Dickson to reform and harmonize various reports on wage bills of the local council, Rural Development Authorities and the primary schools.

The Joint state executive councils of the unions had at weekend issued a communique challenging the  Talford Ongolo’s report demanding council chairmen to stop workers salaries and consequent sack.

They called branch Executives of the unions in the eight Councils and the 32 rural development authorities to fully shut down all health facilities, markets and Secretariats of the Councils beginning from November 9, 2017.

The statement said “We call on his excellency the Governor of Bayelsa state to sack Mr. Talford Ongolo who has abandoned his government house duties and has shown desperation to hijack the local government and the functions of the local government service commission”
The union further warned that Mr. Talford Ongolo persistent actions of interfering with the local government system may destabilize the peace and security of the state, if his self imposed verification report is implemented.

The group however alleged that the Chief of staff was working towards the stoppage of salaries and consequent sack of thousands of Local Government workers.
The group maintained that ” Only the Local Government Service Commission can hire and fire and consequently reject Mr Talford Ongolo’s fake staff verification report.
They therefore called all the councils in session and all the Chairmen of the Councils and the Commissioner for Local Government Administration to immediately stop the implementation of the report to avoid possible serious crisis.
It reiterated faith in the reports of the last staff verification exercise headed by Senior citizens of the State especially the ones by the last care taker committee chairmen of the Councils.
Maintaining that Talford Ongolo has abandoned his Chief of Staff duties in Government House, the group called on the Governor of the State Henry Seriake Dickson to sack the Chief of Staff who it said was bent on unleashing confusion particularly at a time the Governor has severally expressed confidence in the activities of the Local Government Service Commission.
The Council therefore said it was giving the State Government three days ultimatum from Monday 6th to Wednesday 8th November 2017 within which to reverse the directive without which all Local Government workers should resume a full strike action.
