Bayelsa: FRSC warns traders against encroaching highways

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Bayelsa state Command, has called on street traders especially in market places to avoid encroachment on the road, mostly the highways

Mr. Ikechukwu Igwe who made the call after a routine sensitization of the traders, said the exercise was aimed at providing information and educate them against disorderliness on the road, especially market areas within the state.

Igwe said there is a penalty for those traders who encroach on the road with their goods.

He said henceforth, anyone found guilty of street trade in the state would face the consequences and charge for road obstruction.

He said: “We sent our team with a van to restrict the traders not to encroach on the roads, even though most of our duties are on the highway, we adequately get involved in the city.

“Our effort has reduced a lot of crashes on the road in the market iplaces mostly the Zarama market on the East-West Road,” he said.

Igwe reminded the traders that illegality remained an offense.

He said, “Even if you are issued a ticket to trade, it is not a permit to encroach the highway. You are to limit your trade within the market.”
