Bayelsa to sack education officers for age falsification

The Bayelsa state government has recommended compulsory retirement for about 158 members of staff of the post primary school board over age falsification and other offences.
The executive chairman of the board, Dr Asiam Blessing Ikuru, disclosed this in Yenagoa during a press conference on the state of schools in the state.
She said a staff verification committee has established 413 cases of falsification and ‘questionable letters of appointment,’ which were reviewed, and about 158 officials were found culpable.
“A total of 413 cases of falsification of records in terms of under declaration of age and questionable letters of appointment were reviewed, and out of the number, 141 were cleared and 158 workers were recommended for immediate retirement,” she said.
The executive chairman commended the state government for declaring a state of emergency in the education sub-sector, adding that if the audit report in the post primary schools board is implemented, the board will save about N19,392,640.” She explained that the board had a total of 5,980 officials following a personnel audit by a salary regularisation committee involving189 schools and zonal boards.
