Bayelsa to train 300 youths in ICT

As part of efforts by the Governor Seriake Dickson led government to bridge the skill and entrepreneurial gap among Bayelsa youths in the areas of Information and Communication Technology, ICT, and relevant craftsmanship towards enterprise development, the Bayelsa state government has concluded plans to train 300 youths in these areas.

The training programme which would begin Tuesday is in partnership with Young Innovators of Nigeria and Nigeria Computer Society is to organise a Digital skills training tagged “Bayelsa Ecosystem Training Facilitated by Young Innovators of Nigeria and the international Youths in Information Technology.”

In a joint statement by the state commissioner for Labour, Employment and Productivity, Chief Collins Cocodia and the President of Young Innovators of Nigeria, YIN, Mr Andrew Abu, stated that the training is powered by the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, and is “principally targeted towards fostering the entrenchment of technical skills and technology entrepreneurship in areas such as mobile application development, ICT for environment, ICT for agriculture and other selected areas of craftsmanship.”

According to the statement, other partners include, Nigerian Society of Computer Engineering,  Nigeria Computer Society,  Nigerian Association of Computer Science Students NACOSS, ICT Directorate Computer Professionals Petroleum Technology Development Fund , Communications Commission University of Jos, Network of Incubators and Innovators in Nigeria, NINE,  National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion, Zinox Technologies Limited, Sidmach Technologies Nigeria Limited, Precise Financial Systems Limited, Google LaunchPad , and Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria, among others.
