Following the postponement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Bayelsa state, one of the aspirants, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, has appealed to the National Working Committee (NWC), and other stakeholders of the party to avoid a reoccurrence of what happened in Rivers state and Zamfara, during the last general elections due to internal rancour.
Amgbare, spoke with journalists at the weekend in Yenagoa, after the postponement of the earlier scheduled governorship primaries in Bayelsa state due to a court injunction.
He said since the time is short to follow the issue legally, the best bet is to call on the aggrieved persons and the six contesting aspirants who are the major stakeholders and discuss the way forward.
“Some persons are already in court because they feel aggrieved because they say they want indirect primaries. Though it’s not in their place to foist the mode of election on the party.
“We have to look at their grouse and address it, the court also can’t tell us what mode to adopt, and that is party affairs. They want us to dialogue and that is the way to go. And as long as the party lives up to the expectations of the people we will participate,” he said
He further emphasized that he stands with the direct mode of primaries, which to him is the most democratic way to conduct the primaries, but must be handle with care.
He said, “We must agree on how to get the returning officers from the 105 wards and eight collation officers at the LGA level. The process must not be seen as favouring one person to the disadvantage of other contestants. We expect that the primaries election committee will be transparent”
