Bayelsa youths demand General Boroh’s Sack

Protesting youths in Bayelsa State Tuesday interrupted  activities around Yenagoa and Opokuma  Yenagoa Local Government Councils asking for the removal of the Chairman of the Amnesty Implementation Committee, Brig.Gen. Paul Boroh over alleged non-performance and diversion of funds meant for the proper implementation of the programme.

While scores of youths gathered at the Igbogene Area of Yenagoa with calls for Boroh’s sack, thousands of First, second and third phases amnesty beneficiaries under the Niger Delta for Accountability and Good Governance (NDAGG) gathered at the Opokuma junction with a loud message to President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Amnesty Boss.

The protesting youths, under the NDAGG, armed with placards with inscription such as “Buhari sack corrupt Boroh now!”, Corruption: Boroh Must Go!” and “EFCC submit your report on Boroh”, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the fact that 80 per cent of the Amnesty beneficiaries and kinsmen of the amnesty boss,” we have reviewed his performance and found out that he is a failure and his non-performance encouraging renewed hostilities and militancy.”

Most of the speakers at the protest, including Comrade Samuel Sogulu, Commander Rollins Ezetu, Commander Ebillo of the Third Phase and Opukeme Orubo insisted that the Amnesty programme under the administration of Paul Boroh have become an avenue for political aides and Amnesty staff to amass wealth at expense of peace in the region.

The Secretary of the group, Niger Deltans for Accountability and Good Governance (NDAGG),Comrade Timi  Amgalabiri said the decision to stage the protest in Opokuma junction is to move close to the Kaima community venue of the Kaima declaration that started the struggle by the Ijaws and gave birth to the Amnesty programme for the youths of the region,”

According to Angalabiri, “the Amnesty office is meant to train and empower Niger Deltans. It is meant to be a means of exposing Niger Deltans to the outside world. But shockingly, the Presidential Amnesty under Boroh has been turned into avenues of corruption and intimidation of Niger Delta youths. We have submitted series of petitions against Paul Boroh and his aides and we called on the EFCC to investigate our facts and allegations.”

“Based on this numerous petitions of fraud, stealing and incompetence submitted to Nigerian Anti-corruption agencies against Boroh, including alleged cases front-persons and aides, the ongoing investigation by anti-corruption agencies which have indicted almost all Gen. Boroh’s aides and hundreds of millions found and frozen, we ask that President Buhari ask him to step aside and appoint credible Niger Delta indigene as New Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).”

Also in his statement, a member of the NDAGG, Comrade Keisy Agama, alleged that the Amnesty Beneficiary sloths are being sold by Gen. Boroh’s Aides from N200k – N300k thus filling the Amnesty database with unqualified persons.

Gen. Boroh has been allowed by the Presidency to remain in office and he fired over fifteen (15) alleged whistle-blowers (mostly Ijaw youths) by trying to cover his tracks despite these mind-boggling revelations.
