Bears over rule as market sheds N27bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Wednesday returned to bearish trend, declining by N27 billion.

Specifically, market capitalisation of listed equities yesterday depreciated by 0.2 per cent to N13.689 trillion from N13.716 trillion traded the previous day.

The NSE All Share Index also fell by 56.13 basis points  to 28,088.74 points from 28144.87 points traded on Tuesday. 
Investors exchanged 157.790 million shares valued at N2.523 billion in 3253 deals against 135.183 million shares valued at N2.092 billion in 3358 deals.

A review of transactions for the day showed that Seplat Petroleum Development Plc led gainers table during the day, appreciating by N45.00 to close at N525.00, Nigerian Breweries followed with a gain of N3.90 kobo to close at N60.00, Bog Gas added N0.46 kobo to close at N5.07 kobo, C & I Leasing increased by N0.45 kobo to close at N5.00, Access Bank Plc advanced by N0.10 kobo to close at N6.65 kobo.

On the contrary, Nestle Nigeria Plc recorded the highest loss during the day, declining by N27.00 to close at N1300, Dangote Cement industry trailed with a loss of N3.00 to close at N171.00, Total Nigeria Plc depreciated by N2.40 kobo to close at N127.50 kobo, Wapco Plc down by N0.25 kobo to close at N14.15 kobo, Guaranty Trust Bank sheds N0.25 kobo to close at N28.75 kobo.

The result further showed that Guaranty Trust Bank Plc was the most active stock during the day, trading 33.593 million shares valued at N971.444 million, United Bank for Africa followed with account of 30.731 million shares cost N173.477 million, Zenith Bank Plc traded 22.885 million shares cost N428.163 million, Sterling Bank Plc sold a total of 11.435 million shares worth N26.053 million while Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc 9.340 million shares cost N9.408 million.
