‘Bello to sack aides over failed Melaye recall

Following the failed attempt on Saturday to recall Senator Dino Melaye, Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has reportedly concluded plan to sack some of his aides from the western senatorial district. Source close to the government, said the governor who was visibly angry shortly after the release of the outcome of the recall process by INEC, threatened the aides with sack for not actualising the recall of the embattled senator.

The seven local government administrators in the zone who were said to have been “heavily mobilised” are said to be at the centre of the recall exercise. Blueprint recalled that 50 percent plus one signatures of the petitioners were needed on Saturday to continue with the recall process but only 5.34 percent was eventually garnered, which made INEC to discontinue the recall process. The source added that the alleged threat of the governor has made all the political appointees from the zone to go underground with some allegedly visiting spiritual homes to help them retain their jobs.

However, phone calls put across to some of the aides by newsmen in Lokoja proved abortive as their numbers remained switched off . Meanwhile, during the Saturday verifi cation exercise, it was gathered that some of the governor’s aides who attempted to disrupt the exercise, were immediately rebuffed by the people.

The Director- General on Media and Publicity to the Governor, ingsley Fanwo, was specifically said to have mobilised some thugs to disrupt the exercise in his local government area, Mopa Amuro. When contacted, Fanwo denied having hand in mobilising any thug to disrupt the exercise. According to him, “There was no mobilisation funds given to anybody by the state government, the whole thing is a ruse and an attempt to paint the state government black.”
