Benue Assembly crisis lingers, court adjourns case to Aug 24

The crises facing the Benue state House of Assembly has continued to linger as the interim orders issued by Justice Theresa Igoche of a Makurdi, High Court restraining factional leaders of the Benue state House of Assembly subsist.
This is even as the court has adjourned hearing for 24th August, 2018.
While Terkimbi Ikyange is insisting that he remains the substantive Speaker, Titus Uba is also claiming right of office after 22 members met without the embattled Ikyange convening the House while on recess.
The crisis, which has been shifted to the law court, has seen both the impeached Speaker Terkimbi Ikyange and Speaker Titus Uba severally securing court orders restraining each other from conducting business of the Similarly, Governor Samuel Ortom, Uba and 21 others are also applying for an interim injunction restraining the Chief Judge of the state from receiving process and constituting any panel respecting impeachment move against the governor.
At the resumed trial yesterday however, the matter could not continue for the dual reasons of problem of service and time requirement for response to court process.
While Sabastine Hon. SAN counsel to Ortom, Uba and other 21members said he was not ready to continue with the business of the day on account of service, Mamman Mike Osuman argued that the motion on notice brought by Ortom, Uba and 21 others was not ripe for hearing.
