Benue state government Wednesday commenced work on the over six billion naira Benue Geographic Information Services (BenGIS) project aimed at digitalising land administration in the state.
Speaking with journalists at the commencement of work, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Solid Minerals, Dr. Bernard Unenge, said the project, which was recently approved and flagged off by Governor Samuel Ortom, is a deliberate move to ensure permanent solution to challenges in land administration for efficient and effective services.
The commissioner said the BenGis project which is first of its kind in the history of the state, when completed, will ease the difficulties in acquiring and developing land in the state as well as addressing the issue of sharp practices by land speculators.
He added that the digitalisation of land administration by Governor Ortom will further facilitate smooth and fast process of obtaining land title documents such as Certificate of Occupancy (CoO).
He further noted that the project, which is expected to be completed within 24 months will solvE land administration issues and generate revenue for the state.
“BenGis will boast revenue generation of the state for the development of critical infrastructure.
“And apart from the gigantic structure to be built in Makurdi the state capital, Gboko, Otukpo and Adikpo Zonal offices of the ministry will also be reconstructed.
“The project was flagged off on September 30, 2020, as a step by the Benue state government to revolutionalise land administration,” he noted.
