Benue fallen tanker: FFS begins investigation to ascertain casualty, cause

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has launched an investigation into the cause of fire disaster at Ahunbe village along Aliade road in Gwer East local government area of Benue state on Monday.

The investigation is meant to ascertain the number of casualties and the cause of the fire.

Various media reports had quoted different numbers of casualties as a result of the disaster ranges from 40 to 50 deaths.

But in a statement made available to Blueprint on Tuesday in Abuja by the Public Relations Officer of the FFS, DSF Ugo Huan, said the “Investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the actual cause of the fire and the level of casualty.”

According to Huan, the FFS Firefighters on arrival at the scene of the incidence were able to contain the fire and stop it from further escalation and destruction.

“Men of the Federal Fire Service responded to a fire call at Ahunbe Village along Aliade road in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, yesterday 1st July at about 16:17hrs. On getting there, it was fire resulting from a fallen tanker carrying fuel.

“Our men are at the scene carrying out search and rescue as victims are taken to hospital for medical attention,” she stated.
