Armed herdsmen Thursday night attacked Tsukwa in Anyiin in Logo Local Government Area of Benue state and killed three persons, while about three other persons were injured.

Anyiin, which is the home town of the former Benue state Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has one of the biggest internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp, and serves as a base for special forces sent to the area to maintain peace.

Confirming the attack, Chairman of Logo Local Government council, Mr Richard Nyajo, said the herdsmen laid ambush in Tsukwa near Redeemed Christian church of God located along Anyiin-Ayilamo road, shot six passerby, while three of their target were killed.

The council chairman also said three of the victims were seriously injured and were receiving treatment at the NKST hospital.

A resident of the area, Mr. Joseph Anawa, alleged that the herdsmen came through Nasarawa from Tunga Awe local government area to launch the attack.

He said the attack had forced many people living around the area to flee their homes to the two IPDs camps located in Anyiin main town.

Anawa disclosed that the attackers were later repelled around 9 pm by the security forces before the dead and injured victims could be evacuated.

He said the herdsmen also made another attempt the same night on Azege, another community in the area but were repelled by the security forces stationed in the area.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, also confirmed the attack, adding that two persons died on the spot while the third victim died in the hospital.
