Benue: ‘Investigate priests, others killings’

 

The Tiv Area Traditional Council of Benue state has appeal to President Mohammadu Buhari to diligently investigate the circumstances that led to the massacre of the two Catholic priests and worshipers as well as military invasion of Naka town with the view to identifying the culprits and bringing the to justice.

The Council described as barbaric, condemnable, inhuman and satanic, the killing of two Catholic Priests, worshippers and other people in Benue state by armed herdsmen militia.

The Council in a communiqué after its emergency meeting yesterday, also called on the President to use his position as the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerians Armed Forces to stop forthwith, genocide and massacre of the Tiv people and other tribes in Benue state and the country.

According to the Council, the military invasion of Naka town on the account of alleged killing of a soldier, which resulted on the loss of lives and destruction of property, was uncalled for, since the local authority was making efforts to unravel circumstances around the killing.

The communiqué reads in part: “The Tiv Traditional Council condemns in strong terms the incessant killings of Tiv people in Nasarawa and Taraba states and appeals to President Mohammadu Buhari to put in place necessary machinery to stop further killing of Tiv people in Benue valley and beyond”.
