Benue politicians amassing wealth at the people’s detriment – Tor Tiv

The paramount ruler of the Tiv nation, His Royal Majesty Prof. James Ayatse Thursday expressed worry over the increasing rate of poverty among people of the state and tasked those in positions of leadership, both elected and appointed, to find a way to ameliorate the situation.

The Tor Tiv spoke when he received a Benue governorship aspirant for the 2023 general elections, Prof. Terhemba Shija in his palace in Gboko.

Prof. Shija was in the palace of the monarch to intimate him of his intention to vie for the governorship of the state in 2023 and to get his royal blessings.

The Tor Tiv expressed concern that “those in high positions are amassing wealth at the detriment of the generality of the people.”

According to him, the local government which is supposed to be closer to the people seems to have also gone moribund.

Similarly, His Majesty, Och’Idoma, Agabaidu Elias Obekpa, also advised politicians to put first the priority of the people who elected them into office.

He urged Prof. Shija to conduct himself with decorum and eschew rancour and divisive politics.

Speaking Prof. Shija told the royal fathers that he was in their palaces to notify and seek  their blessing on his aspiration to govern the state because he noticed that so much more needed to be done to improve the living conditions of Benue people.
