Benue’ll soon lift embargo on employment – Agada


 

Chairman of the Benue state Civil Service Commission, Professor Jerry Agada, has said that the state government will soon lift embargo on employment.

Agada who said this in an interview with newsmen in Makurdi, noted that there is serious vacuum in the state civil service created by retirement and death of some staff.

He stated that between 2018 to 2019 alone, more than 936 persons retired from the state civil service, adding that the number was outside those who have died, or willingly resigned from the state government workforce.

 Agada said once the ongoing negotiation for the ₦30,000 minimum wage in the state is concluded and definite instruction is given by the governor, the commission will begin mass recruitment into the state workforce.

The former minister of state for education also noted that the idea of charging high fees in schools, particularly universities, was not in the best interest of the country.

Agada also called on the federal and state governments to put a monitoring team on quality assurance for enhance quality of education.

He decried low budgetary allocation both at the federal and state government levels to education, saying it is part of what has contributed to the low standard of education in Nigeria.

He said adequate attention needs to be given and funds pumped into education to ensure improvement of the sector.
