Birnin Gwari: Crush bandits in 3 weeks, Buratai orders troops

Kaduna Chief of Army Staff , Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has charged troops fighting armed bandits in Birnin Gwari general area in Kaduna state to bring the criminals to their heels within three weeks. The army chief gave the charge while addressing troops of 2 Battalion at the Forward Operation Base of Operation Idon Raini, stationed at Kampani Doka, Birnin Gwari local government area of the state.

He said: “You must follow the battle procedure in countering and destroying the adversary by responding effectively and decisively. You must employ offensive approach not defensive. Since the battle has been brought to you, you must crush the enemy.

“In three weeks there must be decisive result that will bring these criminals to their knees finally. They are not from the moon, they are within this vicinity.” While experiencing appointment over recent killing of 11 soldiers by armed bandits in the area, Buratai said commanders would be held responsible for any casualty during operations, henceforth. “The killings and wanton destruction of properties must stop in this area and across the country. As commanders you must ensure that the troops perform their duties, and also ensure that they abide by the rules of engagement. Commanders will be held responsible for any lapse during operations. Therefore, they must take appropriate actions.” He noted that he had been briefed by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1 Division on challenging faced by troops, and assured that they would be resolved quickly
