Bizman arraigned for causing grievous hurt

The police yesterday arraigned a business man, Kelvin Heaven, in a Wuse zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court for causing grievous hurt and joint act.
The accused, 38, with two others now at large, was alleged to have attacked the complainant, Yusuf Bawa, with knives and cutlasses while he was asleep.

They were alleged to have beaten up the complainant and in the process, inflicted injuries on him.
The prosecutor, Cpl Francis Tanko, informed the court that on April 1, at about 4 a.m., Bawa, of Afroasia Garden-Wuse Cone 4, Abuja, lodged the report at Wuse Police Station.

The prosecutor told the court that on the same date, at about 12.15 a.m., while Bawa was sleeping, Heaven and two others attacked the victim.
He said it took the intervention of people to catch Heaven while the other two escaped.

Tanko told the court that the offence contravened the Penal Code, punishable with one year imprisonment, fine or both.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
The prosecutor urged the court to grant a date to enable him to open the case since the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The senior magistrate, Mrs Grace Adebayo, granted him bail for N100, 000 and a surety.
She said the surety must be a business man that owned one of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) shops.
Adebayo also ordered that the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
She adjourned the matter until May 28, for hearing (NAN)
