Blueprint mourns as Kaduna correspondent, Lapai dies at 73

The Kaduna state correspondent of Blueprint Newspapers, Malam Usman Abdullahi Ibn Lapai has died.

Lapai died at 9:20am Saturday morning at the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna after suffering an illness, at the age of 73.

He was buried Saturday afternoon at the Bachama Cemetery, Tudun Wada Kaduna after a funeral that held in his Katagum by Zango road residence according to Islamic rites.

Lapai was survived by a wife, seven children and four grandchildren, as well as siblings.

His funeral was attended by members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists Kaduna state Council, executive members and officials of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and people from his neighborhood.

Among those that attended the funeral were National President of NIPR, Alhaji Mukhtar Sirajo, Chairman of Blueprint Newspapers, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Alhaji Mohammed Bashir Chedi, among others.

Baba Lapai, as he was fondly called by colleagues, was a staff of the defunct New Nigerian Newspaper (NNN, which he joined as librarian before retiring as a reporter. He later joined the Market Magazine, which metamorphosed into Blueprint Newspapers. 

Before his death, he was an active member of the NIPR and served as a member of the immediate executive.
