Blueprint’s sports writer, Binga, Dalung, others bag Taekwondo Awards

 

Blueprint prolific Sports Writer, Ikenna Okonkwo, President of Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) Mrs Elizabeth Binga and Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Barr Solomon Dalung were among those honoured earlier this week when the country’s taekwondo body rolled out drums to recognise out outstanding performances.

The award ceremony which was first of its kind also witnessed special presentations to athletes, teams, coaches, Referees and other distinguished personalities for their various contributions to the development of Taekwondo in Nigeria.

While Okonkwo was honoured as one those with clear cut support for the sport alongside Kuti Dare, The Nations’ Olalekan Okukan, AIT’s Calistus Ibare and NTA’s Kenechukwu Emmagbodike, Mrs Binga emerged as NTF’s person of the year just as Sports Minister received Patron of the year award.

Athletes were not left out as Sanusi Abdulmujeed, Uzoamaka Otuadinma, Charles Okon and Elizabeth Anyanacho became best and most improved athletes for both male and female respectively.
Having won maiden edition of Nigeria Taekwondo Open championship and 8th edition of Korean Ambassador’s cup in 2017, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were announced as team of the year. Their coach, John Victor won the best coach accolade.

Lagos-based Q-Madi taekwondo team was named most improved team same way they were honoured as grassroots club of the year.

Abuja-based Chika Chukwumerije Sports Foundation were victorious as grassroots organisation of the year.

Technical Director of NTF and three time Olympian, Chika Chukwumerije described the ongoing year as spectacular despite the short period the newly inaugurated board had with a promise that 2018 will be more engaging.
