Blueprint’s story lifts displaced Ebonyi triplets’ mother as good Samaritan clears-off bills

Luck has smiled on Mrs Lucy Okpuru Mgboke, mother of triplets as some citizens of Ebonyi state have come to her aid.

Lucy was delivered of triplets on 29th of July, at a government health centre on Convent Road Azuiyiokwu Abakaliki, but lacked the finances to take care of her hospital bills.

Sequel to the Monday Blueprint publication, bringing to public the plight of Lucy, a good Samaritan, Dr Adaeze Nwuzor, a former Senior Special Assistant to Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state on Education, Monday cleared off the bills.

Mrs Nwuzor noted how pathetic it was to see a woman in such condition, saying: “I was touched after reading the story to come and see the mother and children. I gave birth to twins; a boy and girl and I know what it is to nurse twin babies, not to talk of triplets.

“Also I have a foundation, an indigent care foundation that takes care of indigent widows, downtrodden and old people in the society.

“I came from a very poor background, but was fortunate to be where I am today. So I love helping those in need, according to my capability,” she said.

She thanked God for the health of the mother and children, describing them as gifts from God.

Meanwhile, a nurse working with the health centre, Mrs Gladys Njaka, has stated that Lucy was not kept in the facility because of hospital bill, explaining that the centre decided to help them nurse the babies who are below weight.

“It is not the hospital bill that is holding them; it’s the size of the children. As you can see, there are very small, like 1.8kg, we want to nurse them until they get to 2kg or minimum of 2.5kg before we discharge them.

“We had similar delivery where the babies were 1.8 kg; we nursed them to 2.6kg before discharging them. It is the same thing that we want to do for these babies.

“This people we are referring to came from Ebonyi local government area and the wife of the council chairman assisted so much. We are also expecting the chairman of Abakaliki LGA to do the same for Lucy and her babies,” she said.
