Beneficiaries of the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme in Bogoro local government area of Bauchi state have so far saved N6 million.
The beneficiaries have also acquired 263 goats, sheep, chickens and 72 bags of assorted grains since the inception of the programme.
The information officer of the local government, Gobna James, made the assertions in a press release issued to newsmen Monday.
The beneficiaries with 120 registered cooperative societies made the savings at the Cooperative Farmers Association Microfinance Banks in the state.
He said in a similar development, the beneficiaries have benefitted from loans of N1.8 million given to themselves from the scheme and they are also processing the opening of 159 new cooperative societies in 60 communities to boost the execution of the scheme.
“Recently, 2, 808 households in the area were given their allowances for September to December 2020 amounting to N56.1m, besides 934 households who were given additional N10,000 each as top up, totaling N9.3m,” he said.
The information officer quoted the executive chairman of the council, Iliya Habila, as admonishing the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously to boost their economic status.
He said the chairman commended those who had saved in various banks as well as invested in other ventures and said they were securing the future of their families.
“He warned those who thought the money was their cut of the national cake and misused it, saying it was meant to alleviate their poverty.
“Beneficiaries who reacted to the intervention, thanked the federal government for sustaining the scheme.
“The beneficiaries also commended the Bogoro local government council for ensuring that the scheme was executed without hitches,” the statement reads in part.
