Boko Haram: ‘5,247 Muslims killed, N81.6bn lost in Adamawa’

The Adamawa state chapter of Muslim Council, has said no fewer than 5,247 Muslims lost their lives in the Boko Haram crises that affected seven local government areas of the state. The local governments include; Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Mubi North, Mubi South, Hong and Gombi.

A report on the crises signed by the branch Chairman of the council, Alhaji Abubakar Sahabo Magaji and Secretary General, Alhaji Ismaila Moddibo Umaru, indicated that some 5,161 Muslims sustained various degrees of injuries.

The report indicated that 12, 732 properties belonging to Muslims in the aff ected areas, including houses, mosques, livestock and farm produce worth N81.6 billion were also destroyed.

The report said Madagali local government has the highest number of the dead with 2,500 persons, while Hong has the least number with 68. Michika local government has the highest number of lost properties, valued at N23.3billion, while Maiha has the least with properties worth N157million.

The report which was presented to the state Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Bindow, recommended among others, support for the victims by the Presidential Committee on North-east Initiative and reconstruction of places of worship and Islamiyya schools destroyed.

It also recommended beefing up the security in the state with more personnel, and financial support to local vigilante groups assisting the military in the insurgency fight.
