Boko Haram, Banditry, others: 2 terrorists killed, 51 hostages rescued, weapons recovered as army intensifies operations

Withing three days of intensive operations across the country, troops of the Nigerian army have killed two terrorists, freed 51 hostages, arrested several persons and recovered some numbers of weapons.
The troops also averted calamities by safely detonating an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and prevented communal clash in some parts of the country.


This was revealed in a statement by the Media Coordinator of the Nigerian Army Operations, Col. Aminu Iliyasu.
According to the breakdown in a statement, troops fighting insurgency in the North-east neutralised two Boko Haram terrorists during an air strike by the Nigerian Air Force aircraft, and recovered one Gun Truck, two AK 47 rifles and one Anti-Air Craft Gun. 
He said 51 civilians hitherto held hostage by the criminals were also rescued during the encounter. 


Also within the theater, Aminu said troops arrested a pickup truck conveying three female adult, 15 adult males and three rustled cows during a clearance operation at Mada Village in Konduga local government area of Borno State 
He said in another location, troops also arrested four male suspects with large consignments of dried fish intended for delivery to the terrorists 


“Similarly, troops of 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison while on aggressive patrol to deny criminal insurgents freedom of action within their Area of Responsibility discovered two Improvised Explosive Devices planted along the route in Buni Gari, Gujba local government area of Yobe State, and were safely detonated by the Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD) team,” he said.

On Operation MESA conducted in the Southern part of the country, Aminu said troops of 245 Battalion while responding to distress call “intervened and averted a bloody clash” at Mkpani community in Yakuur local government area of Cross River state between the youths of Ajare and Edume clans during a New Yam Festival held in the Community, and recovered two dane gun, locally made pistol, axes and a cutlass at the scene of the incident.


“Also troops of 9 Brigade Garrison while on a joint patrol with personnel of the Nigeria Police Ejigbo Division in Suru-Lere local government area of Lagos State discovered an abandoned AK 47 Rifle with Registration Number 562558860 inside a drainage in the general area of Ejigbo,” he said. 
The media coordinator said the Chief of Army Staff has reassured the citizens on the “unwavering resolve of the Nigerian Army to safeguard the territorial integrity of our country in aid of civil authorities.”
