Boko Haram not in control of Baga – Buratai

Contrary to reports that Baga, a fishing community in the Lake Chad fringes, had fallen in the hands of Boko Haram terrorists after a fierce battle with the military, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has assuredly declared that the Nigerian Military is fully in charge total control of Baga.
The army chief made the clarification in Maiduguri while fielding question from journalists during a press briefing at the Headquarters Theater Command Operation Lafiya Dole.
Buratai who was represented by Chief of Training and Operations, Maj. Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, said the troops had a fierce battled with the terrorists but they (troops) subdue them.
“The terrorists contested for Baga, but they lost the contest,” he said.
Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) base in Baga, on Wednesday 26 December, 2016, killing a naval personnel.
In a statement on Thursday, Army spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Sani Kukasheka Usman, said troops of the Nigerian Army and their navy counterparts ” put up a determined fight to repel the attack throughout the night, while Sector 3 Operation Lafiya Dole sent in reinforcements who are on hot pursuit of the terrorists. “
He also said “the Nigerian Air Force component has also been mobilised and are engaging the fleeing terrorists.”
