Boko Haram: ‘Our women, girls are raped, abducted’

North East Advocacy and Rehabilitation Forum (NEARF) has raised an alarm indicating that women and girls were being raped and kidnapped in emergency states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
This was contained in a statement issued yesterday by Abdullahi Usman, Hassan Hammanyaji and Halita Aliyu.
“The current developments in the North-eastern part of the country continue to be a source of concern to all well meaning Nigerians,” it said.

“The continuous bloodletting and systemic destruction of the economy of the area underscore the urgent need for all hands to be on deck to arrest the situation.
“As widely reported in the media both Muslims and Christians, Churches and Mosques, men and women, adults and children, security personnel and civilian have NOT been immune from the violent bloodletting, arson and destruction to lives and properties.

“All these are happening despite the existence of a state of emergency in the area.
“While the media has been giving fairly good coverage to the developments in the area, it is our considered opinion that some aspects of the crises are under reported for example, the abduction, rape and or killing of women especially school girls.

“The plight of orphans and widows who have lost their breadwinners, homes, and sustained various degrees of burns and injuries and are languishing in various hospitals.
“Since the inception of the crises, farmers in the affected areas have been denied access to their farms, let alone  access to the N10 billion  Dry Season Farming loan recently launched by the Federal Government,” it added.
