Boko Haram reduced substantially in Nigeria – COAS

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar Monday stated that Boko Haram insurgency in the Northwest and Northeast part of Nigeria has been degraded substantially.

Air Marshal Abubakar stated this in Ibadan while speaking at the 2nd distinguished personality lecture of the Institute of Peace and Strategic Studies of the University of Ibadan, themed: ‘Roles of the Nigerian Air Force in Internal Security Operations in Nigeria.’

The Chief of Air Staff said if present situation in the affected areas is compared to what we have before, when insurgency and terrorism is all over, it is glaring that Boko-Haram has been caged and cannot come out as a force except in some parts of the country.

Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized that security agencies are busy fighting Boko Haram on daily basis in order to end their insurgency and terrorism in Nigeria.

“Security situation in Nigeria has changed, because insurgency and terrorism has been degraded compared to the past,” he said.

Speaking further, the Chief of Naval Staff maintained  that  Nigerian Air Force are participating effectively in the duty operations both in the Northeast and North central and that his men are providing close air support to the ground forces through provision of logistics such “as supply of harmour, jackboot and medicine to treat wounded soldiers.”

Air Marshal  Abubakar charged Nigerians to be ready to give necessary  support and relevant information  to security agencies so as to  have a secured environment.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka who spoke through the Deputy Vice Chancellor (admin), Prof. Kayode Adebowale, said the Institute for Peace and Strategic Study was built to harmonise the existing peace and security in the nation, and bridge the existing gaps between the government and people both at the local level and internationally.
