Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, has confirmed that his men could not withstand the recent attacks on them at the Mobile Police training camp in Gwoza, Borno state, by the dreaded Boko Haram sect because the insurgents carried more sophisticated weapons.
The police chief declared this while answering questions on a national TV saying that the multi-purpose weapons used by the insurgents were “more than ours as they over ran our men.”
He said: “What happened was that their men were more than us, when they reinforced and came back, they outnumbered us three times. This is not the first time they were doing this; I inherited the attacks from my predecessor.”
Abba assured that though eight of the affected police men had returned from hiding, the attention of the force was focused on the remaining 27 personnel still missing.
He disclosed that his administration would accord adequate attention to ethical policing to ensure that the government and people of Nigeria are given the kind of protection and security they deserve.
