Book on African woman’s quest for equality unveils in Abuja

A book titled ‘The African woman and the Quest for Equality’, written by Assistant director in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Uzor Udegbunam Chioma, has been unveiled in Abuja.

During the unveiling recently in Abuja, the Director FCT Universal Basic Education Board Dr. Adamu Jatau Noma, who described the book as a compendium that would bring the African woman out as well as the need to tell the people to change their attitude towards women.

According to him, the book also recognizes women and girl child as an integral part of the society, saying that when you develop a woman you have developed a nation automatically.

” When you develop a woman you have developed a nation because they are so compassionate

most of them are highly responsible that they can take care of our assets, they take care of children , take care of our homes .So we need to encourage them appreciate them, recognize them in our societies,” Dr. Jato stated:

On her part, the book reviewer, prof. Elizabeth Nyager commended the author for attempting to bridge the gap that works against women’s right, societal wellbeing and development.

She described the book as a basic documentation of all protocols on legal documents used globally to tackle the issue of gender inequality.

She noted that the African woman is born in Africa with African heritage and limitless and the and Author represents a quintessential African woman.

She therefore, charged the author to improve in her subsequent works, saying that, “the book is very cosmopolitan in outlook and can not be easily connected to by the grassroots African woman as they are not directly engaged.”

Speaking earlier, the Author noted that it was not easy putting the work together adding that the whole idea came up in New York, Where over 2000 women came together in 2013 to talk about gender equality and other related issues on how to achieve our goal of equality in our societies.

She however, posited that the idea was not to contest for a 50/50 but at least a 49.9%

She said:”When you look at the political scenario in Nigeria we are not yet there the Ministerial appointment would also soon be done shortly after this present ones are dissolved we should try to talk to people that can talk to people that does it for more women to a have measurable place in the appointment too”.
