The Comptroller of the Nigerian Customs Service, Borno/Yobe command, Mr. Angbala Joshua Jesse, has said that the command has surpassed its revenue target of N62 million in spite of the only two out the 13 economically viable borders that are functional due to the Boko Haram insurgency.
The comptroller, who disclosed this at a press conference held in his office yesterday said even out of the two economically viable borders, only that of Geidam is functioning, as that of Gamboru is offering skeletal services.
“Despite the security challenges, the command made a tremendous achievement by realising a revenue of N100 million, as against the N62 million target given to us,” the Area Comptroller explained.
Comptroller Joshua said the command lost 26 men and officers as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno and Yobe states, adding that the command has been working closely with sister agencies, adding that only recently, the command received the air component commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, AVM IG Lubo.
He said “on 20th July 2017 two kilogrammes of Indian hemp (canabis) were seized by my officers at Giedam and were thereafter handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
“Also, 107 of parboiled rice of 50kg were intercepted by my officers and men along Kanama Geidam border on 25th October, 2017; two buses were intercepted along Yunusari-Geidam axis carrying 298 bags of foreign rice with the duty paid, valued of N2,743,100.00,” Joshua added.
