Brand new cars for Tokyo Olympics gold medalists – Dare

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare has disclosed that gold medalists at the next Olympics Games in Tokyo, Japan in August will smile home with fabulous rewards which will include a brand new car.


The minister said the ministry will be taken a delivery of 10 brand new cars from Elizade Motors  any moment from now which part of the discussions he had with the Chairman of the Group Chief Michael Ade-Ojo last week.


Dare revealed this while he paid a courtesy call to the camp of athletes who begin actions in the Para- lifting World Cup holding in Abuja from February 5th to 7th.
He said the cars are part of the incentives lined up for the Nigerian athletes representing the country at the Tokyo Olympics in August.
Aside the incentives, the minister said the athletes will also enjoy other benefits such as camp allowances and bonuses for representing the country at the games.
Dare explained : ” As part of the efforts to galvanize the athletes to victory, the Ministry through its Adopt an Athlete Programme has attracted Corporate organisations, Sports Philanthropists and multinationals to adopt one athlete which will be getting is training grants directly from the sponsor.


He disclosed that the grant to any adopted athlete will be $20,000 and $10,000 depending on the class of the athlete.
“We on our part will do everything within our means to encourage and motivate you athletes to perform at your optimal best,”.
We shall not toy with your welfare which will be our utmost concern,” he said.
Dare pointed out that no Sports Federation is bigger than the Ministry as they fall under his supervision.


He urged the athletes to work hard so as to write the country’s name in gold at the Olympic Games by winning more laurels.
The Minister later doled out the sum of N.2m to the 20 athletes participating in the World Para-lifting Championship which will serve as part of Japan Olympics qualifiers.
