Breaking: Agba Jalingo freed from custody

Journalist and activist Agba Jalingo has met her bail conditions, and has been released from prison custody.

This was disclosed on AmnestyNigeria twitter handle.

Their tweet reads, “A moment ago, journalist Agba Jalingo was released, on bail, from Calabar Prison after 179 days of unlawful detention. We declared him a Prisoner of Conscience in Nov. 2019. We again call on FG & Cross River to drop all the bogus charges against him.”

Jalingo, who is the publisher of Cross River Watch, was first arrested by the police in August 2019 on the orders of the purported order of Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state.

He was subsequently arraigned for treason and attempting to overthrow the state government due to highly critical articles he published.
