Breaking – Attack on Edo gov, Oba of Lagos: Oshiomhole heaps blame on Shaibu; Obaseki reacts, dep gov washes hands off

Moments after Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Governor Godwin Obaseki and Chancellor of the Edo University, Iyahmo, Dr. Makanjuola, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has apologised over the attack on their convoy at his country home residence in Estako West local government.

Comrade Oshiomhole said the people that carried out the attack were the thugs who invaded the university community on the orders of the Deputy Governor of the state, Hon Philip Shaibu.

Oshiomhole stated that tension in the community started last Friday when Shaibu imported thugs into the community with a view to intimidate political opponents.

However, our correspondent cannot confirm the veracity of the allegation.

In a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Simon Ebegbulem, Oshiomhole said he left the convocation lecture on Thursday through the back so as to avoid being attacked by the thugs who laid siege at the entrance gate of the university.

Oshiomhole said he and other guests were already in the hall when at about 11:30am, the deputy governor stormed the University with over 200 Okada riders and thugs.

“Security operatives accosted them at the gate and refused them entrance. The thugs started threatening the security operatives who insisted the deputy governor can enter the venue but they will not allow the thugs to gain access.

“Following their threats the security operatives tear gassed the thugs and the deputy governor. The thugs were dispersed while the deputy governor joined other dignitaries at the venue. This created tension already in the small community.

Meanwhile, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, has said that he would continue to pursue peaceful resolution of whatever disagreement exists within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obaseki spoke after his convoy was pelted with stones at the country home residence of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Edo Deputy Governor,Hon Philip Shaibu and some dignitaries were in the convoy of Obaseki when the attack took place.

Similarly, Deputy Governor of Edo state, Hon Philip Shaibu, has denied allegations by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole that he caused the attack on Governor Godwin Obaseki and Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.

Shaibu, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Musa Ebhomeni, said he could not have caused what he described as ‘the unfortunate incident that happened this evening.’
