Breaking: Buhari cancels FEC meeting, receives report on Babachir, NIA boss

President Muhammadu Buhari has cancelled the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which would have been his first after returning back home from a medical vacation in London that lasted 103 days.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, who announced this in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, did not give reasons for the cancellation.

He said, however,  that the President Muhammadu Buhari would receive the report of the investigation committee into the allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayo Oke, headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, at 12 noon in his office.

The President had on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, suspended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, and set up a three-member panel to investigate the duo.

The committee, made up of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mr. Babagana Monguno, was given two weeks to submit its report.

Specifically, the committee was mandated to investigate allegations of violations of law and due process made against Lawal in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE) running into millions of naira.

The panel was also asked to investigate the recovery of N13.3 billion by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, which the NIA claimed ownership
