Breaking: Buhari in close-door meeting with AIG Adamu, set to announce him as new Police IG

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Mr Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, who is being considered as a replacement for the outgoing Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Kpotu Idris, visited the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He is currently meeting with the President Muhammadu Buhari in his office. 

The top police officer arrived the villa at about 10.55 a.m., and moved straight to the office of Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Abba Kyari.

Presidency sources said on Monday that a replacement for the retiring IGP would be named on Tuesday. 

One of the persons said to be on the shortlist is AIG Mohammed Abubakar Adamu. If he gets the nod, it means a couple of DIGs may be required to retire.

AIG Adamu, from Nasarawa state, is currently working at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Jos, Plateau state.

Born on November 9, 1961, he enlisted in the police in 1986 with a bachelors degree in geography.

He was at various times the director of peacekeeping operations, Commissioner of Police in Enugu and AIG in charge of Zone 5, among others.

Adamu arrived the villa at about 10.55 a.m. and moved to the office of Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.

Idris is leaving the force after reaching 60 years of age January 15.

He was seen performing his last public official duty of wreath laying at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in Abuja on Tuesday.
