Breaking: Church members, other residents trapped as protest rocks Abuja

Protest by Okada riders in the populated Karu, a suburb area of Abuja has left many trapped inside their churches.

Residents said the protest which started in the morning hours lingered till afternoon.

It took heavy deployment of joint security operatives who dispersed the protesters before normalcy returned in the area located within Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

One of the residents in the area, Coach Godwin Bamigboye wrote via WhatsApp, “Just coming back from town to Karu site. Yes, there is tension but situation under control. Nyanya – Karu road not quite free. This has led to serious traffic hold up from Karu bridge to Karu site.

“Cause of tension – Some okada thieves attacked and killed okada riders. This led to protest by okada riders. I think normalcy is being restored. My little contribution, please.”
