Breaking: Confusion at 2019 NYG as Taekwondo athletes, coaches roam around, stranded; NTF officials stay away

Except urgent and progressive steps are taken by the officials of Ministry of Youth and Sports Development; Taekwondo athletes, coaches and other state representatives’ hope of participating in the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG) could be dashed.

This followed the absence of no Taekwondo technical official at the NYG.

As the confusion raged, coaches and other officials from states are currently meeting at the multi-purpose hall of University of Ilorin, where Taekwondo event was scheduled to take place between Thursday and Friday.

Their meeting is due to the fact that they have not been communicated on the fight schedules which ordinary would have out by Wednesday after technical officials’ meeting and athletes weigh-in.

Some of them who spoke to Blueprint on condition of anonymity said the officials of the federal ministry of Youth and Sports development have refused to mobilise Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) over the years including before the current edition.

The meeting is still on as at the time of filling this report.

Blueprint correspondent currently at the NYG arena reports that efforts to speak to Director of Grassroots development of Youth and Sports ministry Dr Ademola Areh through phone or physically hasn’t yielded fruit yet.

He was said to be away from the premise.

Our correspondent also made effort to speak to any NTF official, but none was at sight as at the time this report was compiled.
