Breaking: Coronavirus deaths now over 7000 in UK, PM Boris Johnson remains in intensive care

Reports say over 7000 patients have died from Coronavirus in the United Kingdom.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is beginning a third day in intensive care as he continues to be treated for Covid-19.

The Prime Minister was moved to a critical care unit at St Thomas’ Hospital in central London on Monday night, 10 days after testing positive coronavirus, after his condition worsened.

And it was last night confirmed he would spend a second night there for ‘close observation’ by medics.

In an update on Tuesday evening, Downing Street said he was “stable” and “remains in good spirits.”

Tuesday, ministers denied he had pneumonia and said he had received oxygen therapy but wasn’t on a mechanical ventilator and was breathing without assistance.

His deputy, the foreign secretary Dominic Raab, who is standing in for him where needed, said at yesterday’s daily press conference he was sure the Prime Minister would quickly recover.

Describing Mr Johnson as not only a boss but “also a friend”, Mr Raab said: “All of our thoughts and prayers are with the prime minister at this time, with (the PM’s partner) Carrie, and with his whole family.
