Breaking – Cyprus invitational tourney: Super Falcons survive Slovakia comeback, secure first win

Nigeria’s Super Falcons a while ago survive a scary comeback before defeating Slovakia 3-4 at the ongoing Cyprus invitational football tournament.

The Nigerian senior Women team had led the European 0-3 in the first half proceedings, before succumbing to a 3-3 equalizer.



The African champions raced to a-three goal lead in the first half of the match with goals from Rita Chikwelu who netted brace in the 7th and 38th minute. Defender Osinachi Ohale scored in between.

Slovakian ladies returned for the second stanza as the better side and it paid off as Jana Vojtekovic reduced the tally in the 67th minute.

Lucia Harsanyova scored two penalties kicks in the 73rd and 78th minutes to level the game and increased the pace of the keenly contested game.

Forward Ana Imo restored Nigerians lead in the 82nd minutes off an assist from Asisat Oshoala.



Coach Thomas Dernerby led-team had suffered 1-4 loss in their opening game.

The Nigeria team will play their last group game against Belgium.
