Breaking: Ethiopian wins Lagos city marathon, Gideon first Nigerian to cross finish line

An Ethiopian Sintayehu Legese has just emerged winner of the Lagos city marathon held on Saturday.

According to an official twitter handle dedicated for the competition, the Ethopia finished ahead of favourite Joshua Kipkorir from Kenya to claim the grand prize of $50,000.

Sintayehu Legese finished with a time of 2:17:20. Joshua Kipkorir came second as he finished 55 seconds later than the winner.

It was a clean sweep for the East African nations as Kenya’s Joshua Kipkorir finished in second place to go home $40,000 while another Kenyan went home with $30,000.

Gideon Goyet, has emerged the first Nigerian to cross the finish line at the 2019 Lagos City Marathon.

Goyet ran the race in two hours and 30 mins.

He is expected to go home with three million Naira.
