Breaking: Ganduje surmounts many hurdles, re-elected Kano governor

The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has declared governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the winner of Kano state gubernatorial election after Saturday’s  re-run election conducted in 28 Local Government Areas in the State.

Announcing the final results at the INEC Headquarters in Kano, the  chief returning officer for the election, Prof. B B Shehu said Ganduje won the election with 1,033,695 and defeated his  opponent in the race, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) who scored a total votes of 1,024,713 .

According to him, the total registered votes stood at 2,242396 while the total votes cast were 2,191535 and that the total invalid votes stood at 50,861 adding that the figures were released after a careful and painstaking scrutiny of  the votes cast in all the 44 Local Government areas of the state.

He however stated that the highest votes scored by governor Ganduje has put him in a clear lead against his opponent, Yusuf who lost the election.

He said: “Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress(APC) ,  having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared winner of the gubernatorial election in Kano State

He however rejected earlier  complaint brought forward by the state Chairman of PDP Alhaji Rabiu Sulieman Bichi which urged INEC to cancel the election, saying all election grievances should be taken to court for legal redress.
