Breaking: Jigawa assembly impeaches Speaker

Jigawa state House of Assembly Speaker Honourable Isa Gwaram impeached has been impeached.

He was immediately replaced by the former Speaker,  Honourable Garba Jahun.

The motion to impeach the Speaker was moved by Honourable Haladu Kanya and was seconded by Honourable Abdulrahman Yangwashi. 

While the nomination of the new Speaker was done by Honourable Lawal Garba Garki and was seconded by Honourable Aliyu I Aliyu Kirikasamma.

Among the Principal officers removed along with the Speaker, Isa Idris Gwaram were the Chief Whip and the Majority of the house, Hounourable Aminu Sale and Honourable Sani Ishiaku respectively.

However, our Blueprint correspondent learnt that the ploy to impeach the Speaker had enjoyed the support of the state executives.

Investigation actually revealed that some perceived supporters of the impeached Speaker were sent to various countries including China to visit students from the state, with the aim of reducing his influence and follower ship in the house.

Addressing reporters after his election, the new Speaker, Honourable Idris Garba Jahun, said what happen in the house was. the height of democracy .

“I did not know that I was going to be made a Speaker today (Thursday), because when coming to the house this morning I drove myself. So that is the beauty of the democracy”, he said.


When asked how was he going to reunite the house, he said: “When I was impeached in 2015, nothing happened and even this one, nothing will happen, because it is democracy”.


He said 20 members of the house signed the impeachment notice.

“Look at this letter it was signed by 20 members out of 30 members of the house. So I am grateful to the members.”
