Breaking: Kidnappers abduct Abia APC Chairman, moments before Buhari’s arrival

Just hours to President Muhammadu Buhari’s arrival in Abia state, the state Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Donatus Nwamkpa has been kidnapped.

The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Benedict Godson confirmed the latest development.

The driver of the APC leader was also said to have been kidnapped but his personal assistant reportedly escaped.

Igbere TV, an online platform based in Abia, quoted a family member as saying heavily armed gunmen abducted Nwankpa on the Isialangwa section of the Enugu-Aba expressway.

The source reportedly said he was heading to Aba from Umuahia in preparation for Buhari’s visit when the attackers struck.

Nwankpa was said to have withdrew huge sums of money at a bank in the state and disbursed some of the money to members of the planning committee for Buhari’s campaign.

He was kidnapped amidst heavy security presence in the state since Monday.

Combined security Personnel including Police, Soldiers, Civil Defence among others were deployed in Aba and environs since Monday, ahead of Buhari’s arrival to commission an Independent Power Project (IPP), built for Traders around popular Ariara market in Aba.

The President is also scheduled to campaign on Tuesday in Abia state before heading to Owerri, Imo state capital.

Blueprint gathered that residents, mostly market Men and Women in the People’s Elephant town of Aba have opted to stay indoors for greater part of the day as a way to maintain tranquility before, during and after Buhari’s visit.
