Breaking: Moments after massive protests, NHRC summons AEPB Boss over ‘arrest, rape’ of Abuja women

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has summoned Baba Shehu Lawan, Director, Abuja Environmental Protection Board over allegations of raids on women in Abuja.

Speaking on Friday at his office over the recent arrests and alleged rape of some women at some night clubs in Abuja metropolis under the guise of being prostitutes, the Executive Secretary of NHRC, Mr. Tony Ojukwu, said no one is above the law when it concerns issues of human rights violations.

In the summons, Ojukwu ordered the AEPB boss to report at the NHRC head office in Abuja on Monday at 11am to answer questions bordering on the alleged maltreatment of some women in Abuja by his operatives recently.

The summons was issued when Ojukwu received a coalition of Civil Society Organisations who were at the commission to demand for a public inquiry into the allegations of rights violations leveled against the police and staff of the AEPB on Friday.
