The Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi has granted bail to Nigerian Musician Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley.
At the resumed bail hearing, his lead defense counsel Olalekan Ojo apologised for his absence at the supposed arraignment on May 20 due to heavy down poor.
Ojo pleaded with the court to accept the bail application Prima Facie based on the presumption of his innocence in accordance with Section 162 (1)
The prosecution counsel, led by Rotimi Oyedepo, however, stated that it is not the temporary release of the singer that mattered but the final judgment.
He, therefore, told the court to final judgement rather than bail.
He said since the lawyer of the defendant said the defendant is a celebrity, then his actions and inactions will have effect on Nigeria Youth.
However, Justice Nicholas Oweibo granted the singer bail to the sum of two million naira and two sureties.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo ruled that one of the sureties must be on Grade Level 10 in the Federal or state employment.
The other surety must have a landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.
The trial has been posponed till 22, 23 and 24 of October.
The singer was arrested on May 10 following intelligence report which EFCC said it received about his involvement in internet fraud. No tags for this post.
